The show will feature stained glass and metal sculptures and cement sculptures by award winning artist Linda Deming of the Deming Art Studio, luxurious hand-woven natural fiber scarves by Village Weaver Mary Rios, pastel and charcoal drawings by acclaimed artist Martie Barrick, Ruth Foremans' Faux Finish and Custom Designs, as well as quilts and handbags by Suzie Berberich of Blue Moon Quilts. Rios, a weaver who will appear in the show and do a demonstration of her work, said fine artists usually make a living at their craft. She is known as the Village Weaver. "I create fabric out of natural fiber," she said. "My new thing is bamboo -- it's a new fiber -- and I produce bamboo shawls. I weave from wool, alpaca, hemp, linen, cotton, and mohair. I also teach weaving." "We have one artist from Grand Rapids and another from Mount Clemens. The criteria was it was for Michigan artists and they are coming from all over the state," Rios said. "This creates a venue for artists to make a sustainable living through art. This is a holiday kick off. We say 'mall' is a four-letter word. This features unique, handmade art made in the U.S.A. -- not in China." Rios said one of the show's more unusual artists is Toad In the Hole Productions, a group of British transplant women, who bead and sell their work collectively. There will be working artist demonstrations both days for families, kids and everyone to learn from and enjoy. Artist demonstrations will include yarn spinning by Cathy Phaneuf, fairy door painting by Lisa Forrester, alpaca wool spinning by Norma Wheeler, floor loom weaving by Mary Rios, the art of woven jewelry by artists of the Toad in the Hole group, and Sharon Beach, certified rug maker, will be doing "Traditional Rug Hooking". Internationally renowned caricature artist John Rios -- Mary's husband -- will be on hand both days to offer shoppers an opportunity to qualify for a free caricature drawing. Each day the first 20 qualifying shoppers to spend $50 or more throughout the show at the artists'' booths will receive one free caricature of themselves drawn onsite that day by John Rios.
