"We've done revivals before, but we're doing this one specifically to celebrate the anniversary," said Earl Zager, communications secretary for Lapeer Adventist Church.

The revival will be presented by Mark Finley, a well-known author, speaker, and television host. Finley, who is presently the speaker for Hope Channel International Television in Silver Spring, Maryland, has traveled extensively throughout the Middle East to Jordan, Israel, Egypt, and Turkey. He will give fully illustrated presentations to help people discover Ancient Bible Prophecies that offer hope for today and tomorrow.

Zager, who is also a retired pastor, said Finley will present the series via satellite. "This is really a series that's being broadcast and telecast by Hope Channel International. It's a program that's going all around the United States. It's a national and international program."

The following presentations will take place at 7 p.m. at the church:

  • "Amazing Discoveries in the Lost Cities of the Dead," Friday, Oct. 24

  • "Iraq, an Ancient King's Dream, and Our Future," Saturday, Oct. 25

  • "Jesus, Jerusalem and Startling Endtime Predictions," Sunday, Oct. 26

  • "Good God! Bad World! Why?" Tuesday, Oct. 28

  • "Echoes of Eternity," Wednesday, Oct. 29

  • "The Child Born in the Middle East who will Change the World," Friday, Oct. 31

  • "The Rumble of a Crumbling World," Saturday, Nov. 1

  • "All Eyes on the Temple," Sunday, Nov. 2

Extended meetings are also being offered through Nov. 22. All meetings are free to attend.

"This is quite an event," said Harry Rogers, pastor at Lapeer Adventist Church. "It's open to anyone -- community, friends, church members, even people who don't believe in God. We want to encourage them to come and check the Bible out."

Lapeer Adventist Church was organized in 1862 and the first church building was built the following year under the direction of William S. Higley, Jr.; the church is still in use at 462 Genesee St. The present Adventist church was built in 1962 and has been under the direction of Rogers for the past three and one-half years. Rogers, who has been a member of the church since 1954, also preaches at the Orion Oxford Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lake Orion.

Seventh-Day Adventists are a faith community rooted in the beliefs described by the Holy Scriptures. Rogers, 66, said Seventh-day follows the Bible and members are considered to be self-Protestant. There are currently 121 members in the congregation at Lapeer Adventist Church.

"When you join a church, you are joining the family of God," said Zager, 82. "It's the greatest family. We have a beautiful family of believers in the Lapeer church, as well as the Orion Oxford church."

Rogers said the church may host a banquet at the end of the series to help celebrate the anniversary.

All meetings will take place at the Lapeer Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 986 Turrill Road in Lapeer. For more information, contact the church office at (810) 664-2060 or visit the church Web site at www.lapeeradventist.org.

Lapeer Seventh-Day Adventist Church offers study time at 9: 30 a.m. Saturdays, with a worship service to follow at 11 a.m. An anniversary service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 8, with a Bible class at 9:30 a.m. The topic will be 146 years of blessings.
