"It was pretty hilly out there," Proctor said. "This course has its fair share of uphill and downhill slopes. I'm pretty tired after running that course." Proctor also was excited after the race about claiming the honor of being named Lapeer County champion. "I feel pretty good about it," Proctor said. "I took a few weeks off this summer before I got back to working out for the season near the beginning of July. "It feels good when that pays off." Proctor's performance paid off indeed. The senior led for nearly the entire length of the course, and never slowed down until he had crossed the finish line. "Congratulations to Matt Proctor," Brown City cross country coach Russ Reitz said. "Congrats to him on being the Lapeer County champion. Matt had a good race, leading the field the entire way. As a team, almost all of our runners were ahead of pace from a year ago. "We should have a very exciting second half of our season." Almont's Don Tobias was the second runner to cross the line. Tobias came in second with a time of 18:20, which allowed him to finish just in front of Capac's Rick Jones, who came in third with a time of 18:21.
