IMLAY CITY -- Imlay City Community Schools Superintendent Gary Richards recently received a boost in salary.

The Imlay City Community Schools Board of Education gave Richards a 1.5 percent raise at the July 3 organizational meeting for this year and that will bring his annual salary to $115,101. The move follows the fact the head of the district did not receive an increase during the 2007-08 school year.

The raise was recommended by the finance committee.

In March, following a satisfactory evaluation of his job performance, the board extended Richards' contract one year to 2011.

At that time, Board Vice President Sharon Muir said the district was pleased with Richards' performance.

The board also approved Richards' performance evaluation, which was based on the areas of policy and governance, communications and community relations, human resource management, educational leadership (curriculum, instruction, and organizational management), values/ethics of leadership, and business and finance.

The board especially applauded his integrity and work ethic.

"I am very happy with our school district and my raise from the board," Richards said Tuesday. Richards has been superintendent for close to two years after serving as principal of Imlay City High School.
