The city of Lapeer is offering a soccer league for children from grades 1-8. This recreational league will emphasize team work and will focus on skill development. Teams will practice weekly and play a seven-game season. A T-shirt jersey and soccer socks will be provided. Boys and girls will play in separate divisions depending on registration. Children in 7th grade and higher may be required to travel locally to play some games.

For youth 4-6 years of age and not yet in 1st grade, the City of Lapeer is offering a Little Kickers Program. The program is a six-week instructional clinic that focuses on the basic fundamentals of soccer. Children will be separated into teams and will stay with their designated teams for the length of the program. This is not a league and the children do not play regulated games. The emphasis instead is on the development of soccer skills and having fun.

Volunteers and coaches are still needed. The City of Lapeer Parks and Recreation asks that anyone interested in coaching sign up to do so when registering their children for the programs. There will be a coach's clinic at the start of the season where each coach will be provided with supplemental material to help them plan their individual practices.

Participants in the City of Lapeer Parks and Recreation soccer leagues will be charged $36 for city of Lapeer residents and $48 for non-residents. For more information, call the City of Lapeer Community Center at (810) 664-4431.
