Local News PUBLISHED:
The latest charges followed an alleged June 18 altercation between Bruman and her cellmate. "The investigation, conducted by Sgt. Steve Beebe, showed Ms. Bruman was upset over moving personal property in the housing area," said Lapeer County Sheriff's Lt. Duane Engelhardt, who commands the jail. "There were words, and a territory battle over room arrangements." The verbal tiff escalated into a physical battle and that's when corrections officers suspect Bruman bit her roommate, 38, in the thigh and finger. The victim's finger was bloody and swollen and there was a half inch diameter laceration on the inside of her right thigh. Bruman is facing additional time in jail or a prison term if convicted. Though currently incarcerated in the Lapeer County Jail, she still must follow the conditions of her probation. She was due to be discharged from that in 2011. "Even in jail, she is on probation terms," said Engelhardt. "You must not engage in assaultive, abusive, threatening or intimidating behavior, is one of the special conditions of the probation order. She has 30 different terms. Another is not to violate the criminal laws of any unit of government." Delling ordered Bruman to pay a $10,000 cash or bond bail. Higgins denied bail. Though she's already behind bars, those terms will be relevant if Bruman hasn't faced the newest charges by her scheduled March 10 release date for the bank robbery. Bruman and her accomplice "Aaron" Holt, 25, of Lapeer, fled the state after the two robbed the bank. They were dubbed "Bonnie and Clyde" by the media and made national news after Lapeer County Sheriff Ron Kalanquin offered to arrange a jailhouse wedding for the couple if they returned on their own. They were captured and brought back, so the ceremony was never performed. Holt, who also plead guilty to bank robbery, was sentenced to two to 10 years in prison. He's currently serving time in Parnall Correctional Facility in Jackson County. His earliest release date is Oct. 3, 2009 with a maximum discharge date is Oct. 3, 2017.
