The hail of gunfire at Arthur and Kleinpell Streets in Flint left Kenneth Mark Frohm, Jr., 28 of North Branch, dead. Terry Roll, 35, of North Branch, and Robert Dwayne Griffin, 23, of Imlay City were seriously injured.

Frohm was driving the 1987 Dodge Ram Charger, Griffin was in the passenger seat and Roll sat in the back seat, said Flint Police Sgt. Jeff Collins.

"After the shooting, there were reports of a darker color blue vehicle leaving the scene at a high rate of speed," said Collins.

The assault with the rifle occurred in a dangerous area of Flint that is known for drug use and crime, said Collins. Police are investigating why the three were in area at 3 a.m.

"They claim they were lost and misguided," said Collins. "Other indications are that they were there to purchase narcotics. The incident is under investigation and we're not sure how it played."

But Roll said the trio were in the area to help out a friend.

"Everyone assumes that we had to be in the area to buy drugs," said Roll. "We were in the wrong place at the wrong time, that's all there is to it."

Roll said they were contacted by a friend who needed help and was stranded in Flint after a night of bar hopping.

"We got there, and yeah it probably looked bad," said Roll. "Three white guys sitting in a truck in Flint. We're were pulled over within 10 minutes by police and warned to leave the area."

Roll said they continued to look for their friend and ended up going up a side street by an apartment complex.

"I heard a popping, and felt a warm sensation; Rob said he was hit," said Roll. "We tried to floor it and go, but we couldn't. Kenny was really bad off and wasn't moving. We got out of the car and tried to run."

Roll said he banged on doors calling for help but no one would answer.

"I gave up; people would not answer," he said. "My vision was blurred and I thought I was on my way out. Then the same cop who had warned us to leave was there."

Roll said he'll challenge anyone who says they were in Flint to buy drugs.

"They must have taken blood tests," he said. "You won't find any traces of drugs; I'd bet on that. We don't deserve this. Kenny is dead from this. That's all that matters."

Collins said the incident is still under investigation.

At press time both Roll and Griffin remained in Hurley Hospital recovering from their gunshot wounds.

Funeral arrangements had not been made for Frohm by press time. Nothing is known about his family. He leaves behind a girlfriend of seven years and their 3-month old child. The County Press was unable to contact the girlfriend.
