Lapeer County Lions getting ready for season opener



ALMONT -- The season opener for the Lapeer County Lions minor league football team is fast approaching and with it, the team is also planning a variety of special events in order to raise awareness in the surrounding communities about the team's upcoming season.

The Lions, who will participate in the North American Football League, will open their inaugural season on Saturday, July 12, at Almont High School. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and the Lions will be facing the Flint Fury.

The season opener will also be kid's night, with a variety of activities scheduled for famillies. Starting at 5:00 p.m. and running until the game comes to an end will be a kids festival, featuring a dunk tank along with a moonwalk and face painting booths for the kids. General admission to the game and the festival is covered at $7 while kids 12 and under will be admitted for free with an accompanying adult admission. Kids activities will only cost $1.

The Lady Lions cheer team will be conducting a Mini Cheerleading Clinic on the same day, Saturday, July 12, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Almont High School gymnasium. There is a $25 participation fee and the clinic is open to all girls ages 5-13.

The Lady Lions will be there to teach cheers, chants, stunting and a 30-second dance routine that will be performed during halftime of the night's game. The Little Lady Lions will perform the routine that they learn during the clinic during halftime of the game between the Lions and the Fury.

The $25 participation fee includes a Little Lady Lion T-shirt, pizza, pop and their admission to the night's game. Registration can be found on-line at www.lapeercountylions.org

At the same time, the Lions football players will be conducting a Pass, Punt and Kick competition on the Almont High School football field. Participation will cost $25 and is open to anyone ages 5-17.

Lions players will be there to help guide participants through through the Pass, Punt and Kick competition. The winner of each age group will announced during halftime of the football game later that evening. The $25 participation fee for the competition includes a Lapeer County Lions T-shirt, pizza, pop and their admission to the game.
