BASEBALL: Lapeer East sweeps Saginaw Arthur Hill; Lapeer West takes two from Imlay City



SAGINAW -- The Lapeer East varsity baseball team swept a doubleheader from Saginaw Arthur Hill on Tuesday, winning the opener by a score of 5-4 before later taking the nightcap by a final of 13-0.

Sam Achtabowski picked up the win in relief in game one for Lapeer East (17-8). East scored three times in the sixth inning to overcome a two-run deficit. Mike Carson pitched the seventh inning to get the save.

Drew Powell had a double and a homerun along with three RBIs. Jamie Logan knocked in the game-winning run in the sixth inning.

In Game 2, the Eagles mercied the Lumberjacks in five innings. Greg Schrot struck out three while allowing four hits for the win. Mike Carson had two hits, Robert Tadazak ended with three, including a three-run homerun, and Drew Powell hit a grand slam and another homer, finishing the game with six RBIs.

Lapeer West 10-12, Imlay City 6-9: In Imlay City, the Spartans dropped a pair of non-conference games to the visiting Panthers on Tuesday. In the opener, Blaine Goertler led IC with three hits and Ryan Pitt hit a homerun and a double for the Spartans. Logan Tigner and Nick Durst each had two hits for West.
In Game 2, Pitt had three RBIs and a double, John Aversano had two hits and Justin Pitt had two hits and two RBIs for Imlay City (12-6, 10-1 BWAC).
