East boys finish fifth at Hatchet Invite



BAD AXE -- The Lapeer East boys track and field team finished fifth out of a total of 11 teams at Saturday's Hatchet Invitational at Bad Axe High School.

The Eagles compiled a total of 85 points, which put them behind winner Caro (153.50), Cros-Lex (119), Millington (85) and Harbor Beach (60). Ubly (47), Imlay City (43), Bad Axe (35), Marlette (35), Capac (33) and Laker High (2) rounded out the rest of the field.

John Hanna had the best individual finishes on the day for East. Hanna ended up with two third place finishes, one in the 110 hurdles (16.70) and in the 300 meter hurdles (43.32). The 3200 meter relay for East (Coulter, Nester, Carey, Denver) also grabbed a third place finish with a time of 8:52.27.

Marlette's Ryan Sabo won the pole vault with a height of 13-00. For the girls, Marlette had the best team finish of any school, finished in fifth place with a total of 59 points. Harbor Beach (128.50) took first followed by Cros-Lex (79), Bad Axe (64.50), and Caro (63.50). Millington (56) came in sixth, followed by Lapeer East (53.50), Ubly (52), Laker (43), Capac (33) and Imlay City (29).

Akron-Fairgrove Invite
In Fairgrove, the Dryden boys track and field team claimed two individual first place finishes at last Friday's Akron-Fairgrove track and field invitational meet. Chad Butler took first place in the long jump.
