Goodrich has won the Division 2 title in the Greater Flint Tournament twice in the past, but the Martians have never won the title at the Division 1 level. With the way the Martians keep winning games, they just might change that this season.

"The reason we won this game was because of our defense," Goodrich coach Bob Foreback said. "We made all the plays today and that was good enough for the win."

With the game tied 2-2, Goodrich got the first two men on base to start of their half of the sixth inning. Leadoff hitter Steve Hughes then singled home Joe Zito for what ended up being the game-winning RBI. Jake Bourassa and Caleb Jones each added RBIs on singles, as the Martians took a 5- 2 lead after the completion of six innings of play.

Zito once again started the rally in the seventh, leading off the inning with a single. Kyler Elsworth and Hughes followed that with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Bourassa, who was 4-for-4 with three RBIs, added another RBI with a single in the seventh, scoring Zito. Jones, who drove in three runs on two hits, singled in the Martians final run to give them the five-run win.

Hughes ended the game 2-for-4, scoring three times with an RBI. Zito scored twice while Elsworth had a hit and scored once as well. Jones picked up the, pitching the final 3 1/3 innings without allowing a run. Jones struck out two while surrendering two hits to the Tigers.
