Imlay City baseball team keeps BWAC record perfect



IMLAY CITY -- At this rate, the BWAC title might be decided a little sooner than usual.

Imlay City's Justin Pitt picked up his third win of the season and Ryan Pitt smashed two homeruns as the Spartans routed Capac 11-1 on Wednesday. With the win, the Spartans moved their Blue Water Area Conference record to 7-0 (8-1 overall), which is the best record in the league.

Pitt went the distance to get the win. He tossed a one-hitter while striking out seven without issuing a walk. Pitt's record on the mound is now 3-0.

Ryan Pitt got the Spartan offense going in the first inning. Pitt smashed a two-run homer over the leftfield scoreboard to put his team up 4-0 after the first. Pitt later added another homerun and finished the game 4-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored.

Blaine Goertler added two hits and one RBI for Imlay City, Devon Weigers had two hits and scored three times, Steve Lesniak had a double and three RBIs and Ryan Baker had two hits and the game-winning RBI. Justin Pitt and Mark Owen each also added a hit for the Spartans.

Vern Wilson had the lone hit for Capac.

North Branch 2-1, Garber 15-8: In North Branch, the Broncos dropped a pair of Tri-Valley East games to the Dukes on Thursday.
Dennis Natke, Luke Bonner, Mike Brooks, Paul Husted and Jack Libke each had a hit for the Broncos in Game 1.
In Game 2, Natke, Libke and Dan Jacobson all had a hit and Bonner had an RBI for North Branch.

Mayville 10-23, Deckerville 2-0: In Deckerville, the Wildcats swept a pair of Greater Thumb East games on Thursday. Justin Lugowski (5-1) earned the win in the opener, fanning nine. Josh Franks was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Nate Richardson had two hits and an RBI, Dylan Schenk was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Ryan Baxter drove in two runs on two hits.
Brett Beckett (3-1) picked up the win in the second game, throwing five scoreless innings while striking out six. Lugowski was 5-for-5 at the plate with five RBIs. Beckett was 4-for-5 with three RBIs, Joel Vendettelli had two hits and three RBIs and Zack Taylor was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Mayville (13-4, 5-0 GTE).

Goodrich 15-7, Montrose 4-8: In Montrose, the Martians spilt a pair of Genesee Area Conference Red Division games with the Rams. Both teams remain tied atop the conference standings with 8-1 league records. Jake Bourassa led Goodrich with seven hits on the day, including two doubles while scoring five times. Kyler Elsworth added six hits and five RBIs, Caleb Jones had six hits and six runs scored and Nick Bourassa finished with five hits and four RBIs for Goodrich.

Lapeer East 4-10, Lapeer West 2-0: In Lapeer, Bobby Frey had four hits and three RBIs as the Eagles swept a pair of Flint Metro League games from the Panthers on Thursday. Lapeer East (9-6, 5-1 FML) had Austin Muir with three hits and Mike Carson added two hits and three RBIs in the nightcap. For Lapeer West (0-5 FML), John Andrezik had five hits on the day.
