SAGINAW TWP. - North Branch's Olivia Kohler and Teal Washington each won a first place in three individual events along with helping their relay team take first place in another as the Broncos girls track and field team finished in second place in Division 2 at the Saginaw Valley State University track invitational on Saturday.

North Branch scored 109 points, good enough for a second place finish in a field of nine high school teams. Gaylord won the top spot in the Division 2 girls meet with 125.75 points. Petoskey was third with 107.5 followed by Linden (77.5), Kearsley (75), Fenton (54), Lapeer East (47.25), Mt. Pleasant (29.5) and Clio (29).

Kohler continued to impress with her performance on Saturday. The junior won first place honors in the long jump with a jump of 16-1. From there, she took first place in both hurdles events, taking the top spot in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.48. Kohler then went on to win the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 50.20, which is the best time she has recorded this season.

Kohler also participated on the 800 meter relay team for North Branch, along with Washington, Taylor Kaiser and Jerica Tedford. The girls won the event with a season-best time of 1:52.25.

Not to be outdone, Washington set two career-best marks on the day as she also placed first in three individual events. Washington won the 400 meter dash with a career-best mark 1:02.86. From there, she went to win the 200 meter dash with another career-best mark of 28.26. To complete the sweep of the sprint events, Washington then won the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.69.

"All the girls ran fantastic," North Branch coach Jason Castle said. "It was a great team effort. Oliva and Teal won three first places. The girls just continue to get stronger.

"Overall, it was a great meet."

For the boys in Division 2, North Branch finished in third place overall. Although the Broncos had no individual first place finishers, the team had enough participants finish high enough in their individual events to place them near the top of the overall standings.

"I am very proud of this team and how they competed against some of the best teams in the state," North Branch coach Paul Stawecki said. "This was only our third meet. We have shown that our hard work is paying off by a lot of our athletes setting some personal bests."

North Branch's Dalton Bates set a personal best in the pole vault with a height of 12-6, good enough for a second place finish. Bates also set a new personal best time of 43.4 in the 300 meter hurdles and finished in third. Cody Stawecki ran a personal-best time of 51.9 in the 400 meter dash and came in second place.

Division 3-4

In the Division 3-4 results for the girls, Millington's Ashley Gavitt was a double winner, taking first place honors in both the high jump (5-0) and the 100 meter dash (13.28). For the boys, Millington's Tyler Reinert won first place in the long jump with a leap of 19.6. LakeVille's Chris Griffin swept the hurdles, winning the 100 with a time of 15.91 and the 300 with a time of 42.33.
