IMLAY CITY - Memphis outlasted three other teams on Saturday to win the Imlay City girls soccer invitational tournament. The Yellowjackets compiled a 3-0 record on the day in the round-robin style tournament. North Branch had a 2-1 record on the day, losing just to tournament champion Memphis by a score of 2-0 in their first game of the day. The Broncos Colleen Cross made 12 saves in that game for North Branch (4-3). In North Branch's second game, the Broncos made their way to a 2-0 win over Marlette. Cross earned her second shutout of the season by stopping all three shots she faced. Anna Schwartz and Katie Owens scored the goals for North Branch. Lauren Brooks and Kayla Lucik recorded the assists on the goals and Kayla Snoblen led her team with five shots on net. North Branch outshot Marlette by total of 19-3 and were leading 2-0 at the half. In the Broncos final game on Saturday, Cross earned her third shutout of the week with a 2-0 win over host Imlay City. Cross made six saves in between the pipes, as the Broncos' offense outshot the Spartans by a tally of 23-6. Owens scored her second goal of the day to get the Broncos a 1-0 lead early in the first half. Brooks added a goal later in the half, as the Broncos took a 2-0 lead over the Spartans at the break. Teal Washington recorded an assist in the win. For Imlay City (2-3), goalkeeper Catie Withun stopped 14 shots in net. The Spartans finished the tournament with a 1-2 mark. They won their first game of the day, a 4-0 victory over Marlette. Withun made seven stops to record the opening-game shutout. Beth Caldwell, Meagan Montroy, Heather Wise and Brynn Bertrand were the Imlay City goal scorers in the win over the Red Raiders. Montroy, Lee, Caldwell and Letica Alcuzar recorded assists. Imlay City lost their second game of the afternoon, a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Memphis. Caldwell scored twice for Imlay City. Bertram and Lee had the assists while Withun made 12 saves in the net.
Other Saturday results Flint Metro Tournament Lapeer East 3, Oxford o Lapeer East 1, Clio 0 Fenton 2, Lapeer 0 At Fenton, Lapeer East won twice while losing once at the Flint Metro League tournament held on Saturday. The Eagles started the day out with a 3-0 win over Oxford. Kelsey Hizelberger scored twice in the win. Ariana Donahue notched the other East goal. Lauren Kobylik and Erin Weiser each had an assist. Against Clio, East's Donahue, a freshman, notched the game's only goal on an unassisted goal in the first half. In the loss to Fenton, the Tigers' Tori Bailey scored twice as the Eagles were unable to find the net. East's record is now 4-1-1.
Friday's results Cros-Lex 2, Almont 1: At Almont, the Pioneers' scored a goal with seven minutes left in the game to break the 1-1 tie. Almont's Heather Curtis opened the scoring with a goal at the 11:00 mark of the first half, her third goal of the season. Taylor Fiebelkorn had the assist. Cros-Lex tied the game with under two minutes left in the first half, and were able to keep Almont off the board after the break. Almont goalkeeper Melissa Anderson made 15 saves.
