Lakeville stays unbeaten; Goodrich sweeps Mt. Morris

OTISVILLE - LakeVille freshman Jenny Price tossed a four-hitter and struck out seven to pick up the win in the second game of a doubleheader against Lake Fenton on Thursday. Price's efforts helped her team get the sweep over the Blue Devils by scores of 9-5 and 1-0.

For LakeVille (8-0, 4-0 GAC Red), Brooke Terwilliger had three hits and four RBIs in the first game. Sarah Wright had three hits and two RBIs on the day while Stacy Hillock had three hits as well.

Around the horn - Thursday

Goodrich 15-10, Mt. Morris 0-0: At Goodrich, Megan Smith allowed just one hit in three innings of Game 1 while Kortni Elsworth just missed hitting for the cycle in the win. Elsworth singled, tripled and homered while driving in five runs in the opening game win. Courtney Brejnak also had five RBIs as she double and homered as well. Emily England also hit a home run in Game 1 and Sunny Mahalak added a solo shot.

In Game 2, Brooke Zimmerman allowed one hit over five innings as Goodrich (5-2, 2-0 GAC) remained unbeaten in league play. Nicole Hill hit a two-run double in the win.

Lapeer West 3-4, Kearsley 0-3: Alyssa Sharrard totaled 16 strikeouts as the Panthers swept a doubleheader from Flint-Kearsley on Thursday. Sharrard came just one batter from throwing a perfect game in the opener. She worked seven innings, struck out 11 and hit a batter, tossing a no-hitter along the way. Bridgett Miller had three hits, Sharrard had two and Jenna Lewis added two as well.

Miller and Sharrard teamed up to throw a four-hitter in Game 2. Miller threw the first two innings and Sharrard tossed the final six to get the win. Miller added three more hits in the second game. Sharrard had two hits and two RBIs while Kim Brown had two hits for West.

North Branch 1-1, Swan Valley 6-4: At North Branch, the Broncos' Kelsey Roloson singled home her team's only run in the third inning of Game 1, scoring Molly Harmon. Emily Wickerman took the loss, scattering six hits while striking out three.

Wickerman took the loss in the nightcap as well, allowing three hits with four K's over seven innings.

Davison 3-6, Clio 14-16: At Davison, Rylee Rubio nad Abby Adams each had five hits on the day as the Cardinals (0-6) were swept by Clio.

Brandon 18-10, Lake Fenton 2-7: At Ortonville, sophomore Jessica Sherman was 6-for-8 with seven RBIs on the day to lead her team to the sweep over the Blue Devils. Sherman added a two-run homerun while also throwing a one-hitter in the opener. Vanessa Bayley was 7-for-8 with six RBIs and three stolen bases.

Mayville 1-0, USA 17-10: At Mayville, the Wildcats suffered their first two losses of the year to the No. 1 ranked team in Division 3. USA provided all the defense it needed to preserve the two-game sweep over Mayville (6-2).

Around the horn - Wednesday

Imlay City 8, Cros-Lex 3: At Imlay City, the Spartans took an early lead in getting the BWAC win over the Pioneers on Wednesday.

Imlay City pitcher Mikayla Pardon struck out 18 batters over seven innings to get the win. Pardon allowed four hits and four walks to Cros-Lex.

Leah Rankin was 2-2 with two RBIs and Kelly Duquette and Alyssa Snyder also had two hits apiece for Imlay City (1-2, 1-0).

Brown City 10-10, Peck 0-0: At Peck, the Green Devils assured themselves of a spot in the Sanilac County Tournament in May with the opening game win. Kristen Greene struck out nine and allowed just three hits over five innings to get the win. Greene added a double with two RBIs while Michelle Burgess had two singles and scored twice.

In Game 2, Jennifer McClelland threw a four inning no-hitter to complete the sweep of the Pirates. Burgess added three more singles and two RBIs while scoring twice. Katlyn Petitpren had three hits, including a double with an RBI.
