In Game 1, LakeVille's Tyler Griswold pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine for the Falcons (2-0). Nate Hayne drove in three runs on two hits to lead the offense. In Game 2, Jordan Welch and Justin Streichert were both 2-for-2 with a walk for the Falcons. Welch crossed homeplate three times and had four RBIs while Streichert scored twice. Zach Snyder picked up the win for LakeVille, pitching three innings while striking out five.
Thursday's results Bad Axe 19, Brown City 11: At Brown City, the Hatchets scored 11 runs in the top of the seventh inning, ruining the home opener for Brown City in the process. Brown City held an 11-8 lead going into the final inning before the Bad Axe offense spoiled the day for the Devils. Andre Sanson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the loss. Doug Martus was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs and Ed Rayba drove in two runs as well on one hit.
Mayville 4-18, Laker 10-0: At Mayville, the No. 9 ranked Wildcats split a non-conference doubleheader with Laker. Mayville dropped the opener before coming back to win the second game by mercy. In Game 1, an early Laker rally pushed the visiting team to the win. Justin Lugowski was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. In the second game, the Mayville bats came alive, as the Wildcats scored 12 runs in the top of the third inning to get the mercy win. Brett Beckett worked three innings, giving up no hits while walking three. Lugowski was 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs. Beckett added three hits, two of which were doubles, while driving in two runs. Mayville (3-1) next plays at home on Monday against Bad Axe.
Wednesday's results Marlette 3-2, C-PS 5-1: At Marlette, the Red Raiders split a non-conference twinbill with the Tigers, losing Game 1 before coming back to win Game 2. In the opener, C-PS scored four runs in the top of the first, as Marlette pitcher Jon Hayward gave up two doubles and four runs in just one inning of work. The Raiders added three runs late, but it was not enough to get the win. Tony Clark led the Raider offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. In Game 2, Grant Fielder went the distance for Marlette, striking out two in six innings of work as he picked up the win. Fielder scattered six hits and allowed just one run to C-PS. Shawn Monroe was 2-for-2 and scored a run for Marlette (1-1).
Tuesday's results Mayville 9-13, Akron-Fairgrove 0-4: The Wildcats opened the season on Tuesday with a two-game sweep over the Vikings. Justin Lugowski picked up the win in the opener, striking out nine while surrendering just one hit in five innings of work. Lugowski also had a big game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs. Brett Beckett added two hits and two RBIs while Nate Richardson had a double and an RBI. In Game 2, Josh Franks threw four solid innings, allowing just one hit while fanning six for the Wildcats. Lugowski was 3-for-5 with a walk and two RBIs in the nightcap win. Joel Venditteli added two hits and two stolen bases.
