Citing a desire to spend more time with his family, Hall took over the Cardinal wrestling program in 1997. During his coaching tenure, Hall led the Cardinals to 10 Big Nine titles, 10 District and eight Regional championships over the past 11 seasons. He led Davison to the school's first-ever Division I State wrestling title in the 2000 season. After finishing as State runner-up in Division I the following season, Hall led the Cardinals to an unprecedented five straight Division I State team wrestling titles. No other high school wrestling team has won five consecutive team titles under the current team format used by the MHSAA.

Hall, who could not be reached for comment on Wednesday, stated in a news release a desire to spend more time with his young family, including his three children, all of whom are under the age of nine.

"I have a 9, 8 and 6-year old and their demands need to be met now," Hall said through the press release. "I'm fortunate to have a wife and a mother who has let me do my own thing, but I don't think I can burn it at both ends anymore and be the father, husband and son I need to be."

Hall was a two-time State champion and a four-time State medalist during his days at Davison before be graduated in 1988. During high school, Hall was named a USA Wrestling Dream Team All-American. From Davison, Hall moved on to wrestle collegiately at Michigan State, where he was a four-time NCAA qualifier and a bronze medalist at the 1990 Olympic Festival.

During his coaching tenure at Davison, Cardinal wrestlers earned 68 top-eight, or All-State) individual state tournament finished, including 17 individual state championships. There are currently seven Davison graduates wrestling in college, including three who earned NCAA All-American honors this season. Most notable among those are Iowa's Brent Metcalf, who won the 149-pound NCAA title this season and was a four-time State champion under Hall from 2002-05.

Hall was named National High School Coaches Association Wrestling Coach of the Year in 2005 and finishes with a 309-48-1 career record as coach at Davison.

"I feel great about Davison," said Hall, a physical education teacher at Davison Middle School. "I want to thank the administration and the parents for their support. Without it, there is no way we would have had the success we've had in this program."

A timetable for naming Hall's replacement was not available. His two assistants boasts accomplished backgrounds. Bill Stouffer was a state champion at Lowell High School and an All-American at Central Michigan University. Aaron Moran was a two-time Ohio state champion and All-American at Purdue.
