Leonard to host first recipe walk Saturday

IMLAY CITY—Officials from the village of Leonard in Oakland County liked Imlay City's Recipe Walk, so they decided to have one of their own.

Leonard's Main Street Committee will sponsor a Recipe Walk Saturday. Locations will be marked with balloons.

"We participated in Imlay City's event and we went and participated as well," said Charlene Sutherby. "The DDA director for Imlay City was most helpful.

"We're hoping to get a good idea in the community with the recipe walk.

At one time, representatives in Oakland County picked out seven areas that were historical in Leonard or key areas, she said.

"We're trying to revitalize our community. I've used the St. Patrick's Day theme for the walk."

Sutherby said the Leonard committee didn't have funding for recipe books. Still, the committee will be passing out recipes, goodies, and treats.

Imlay City's Recipe Walk was Feb. 9. The city sold 114 cookbooks—a five book increase from the previous year.

"We borrowed the idea from Tecumseh," said Imlay City Downtown Development Authority Director Brad Barrett about the recipe walk.

"I talked to their downtown marketing person and we put an Imlay City spin on it. In Tecumseh, they do have recipe cards and I don't think they have an end result (such as a book). Ours is more of a community event with participants visiting each business and encouraging visiting downtown businesses."
