West's Dant named First Team in FML



LAPEER —ÊWhen the All-Conference teams were announced on Monday, Lapeer West had one player named to the top squad.

Defenseman Todd Dant, a senior, was named to the First Team Flint Metro League hockey team on Monday. Joining Dant as a defenseman was Rory Hill from Swartz Creek.

Other notable first-teamers were leading Metro League scorer Brock Veenhuis from Swartz Creek. Veenhuis scored 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 14 league games. Joining Veenhuis on the first team front line are forward Darrren Cross from Linden and Oxford's Tim Marney. Cross finished with 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) while Marney was the area's leading scorer in all games played with 45 points (30 goals, 15 assists) in 24 total games.

Fenton's Matt Makymowski was named first team as a goalie. Makymowski posted a save percentage of .920 and had a GAA of 2.05 in 12 league games played.

Lapeer West forward Jeremy Podgorski was named to the second team squad. Podgorski had 17 points (9 goals, eight assists) in 14 league game.

West had four players earn honorable mention. Senior forward Nate Robson (six goals, 12 assists in FML) and freshman forward Jacob Podgorski (11 goals, five assists) were honored by the Metro League coaches. West goalie Brandon Szczesny was also named honorable mention.

For East, junior forward Drew Steinhaus, junior defeseman Brent McClain and goalie Robert Cavanaugh were all named honorable mention.
