Griesing carries Millington into District Semi-Final



MILLINGTON — Millington's Dustin Griesing scored a game-high 14 points as he led the Cardinals to a 38-31 win over Croswell-Lexington in the opening game of the District 57B playoffs on Monday night.

Millington advances to play Yale at 6 p.m. on Wednesday night. Vassar defeated Caro, 56-46, and will face off against North Branch in the other District semi-final at 7:30 p.m.

Griesing, the Cardinals' leading scorer at just over 19 points a game, led his team after they held a 16-13 halftime advantage.

Millington (14-7) outscored the Pioneers 22-18 in the second half. Cros-Lex struggled offensively the entire game, scoring just two points in the second quarter while making just 11-of-34 shots from the field for the entire game.

Millington's Garrett Stier added nine points. Jacob Munger led Cros-Lex (9-12) with seven points and nine rebounds.

Reese 80, Mayville 46: At Carrollton, Reese (20-0) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, advancing to the second round of the MHSAA playoffs. Reese will battle Saginaw Valley Lutheran on Wednesday night.

The Rockets held Mayville to just two second quarter points, as Reese jumped out front to the 39-20 halftime lead.

Brett Beckett led Mayville with 10 points. Josh Pickell led Reese with 15 points while Ty Graham added 14.

Grand Blanc 67, Brandon 25: At Grand Blanc, the Bobcats Adrian Hunter scored 22 points as he led the hometeam to the District 9A win over Brandon on Monday night.

Grand Blanc jumped all over the Blackhawks in the opening quarter, outscoring Brancon 17-4 in the first. The Bobcats add another 19 in the second while allowing just four points to Brandon.

Dustin Deshais scored 19 points to lead the Blackhawks.

Armada 76, Almont 63: At Capac, Armada overcame an early deficit to get the win in the Class B District 45 opening game on Monday night.

Armada tralied 17-8 at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers eventually overtook the Raiders to win the game. Armada will play Imlay City tonight at 6 p.m. Imlay City earned a first round bye.

Almont's Zack Lowell led all scorers with 23 points. Neal Zott added 22.

Notre Dame Prep 55, Capac 53: Dan Jackson scored a game-high 22 points for the Chiefs (11-10). Jon Carroll and Chris Schroeder each added eight in the losing effort.
