Broncos trip up Eagles

LAPEER — Holly played spoiler to the Lapeer East celebration on Monday night, as the Bronchos forced the Eagles to postpone their clinching of the Flint Metro League title for at least one more game with the 59-46 upset win.

East (14-4, 13-2) owns at least a share of the FML crown, and a win over the Bronchos would have given the Eagles sole share of the title. Now, East must win at third-place Lapeer West on Friday night or hope that second-place Swartz Creek loses to Clio this week in order for the Eagles to be alone atop the Metro League standings.

Holly hit 21-of-25 from the free throw line, including 13-of-14 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.

Lance Hopkin had 22 points and 20 rebounds and Jordan Fowler added 15 points for Holly.

Dan Elliott led East with 12 points, eight rebounds and six steals. Steve Wilmers added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

LakeVille 62, Lake Fenton 61: The Falcons' Justin Streichert made a layup with just seconds remaining in the game to give LakeVille the GAC-Red win over the Blue Devils on Saturday night.

The score was tied 60-60 with nine secons left in the fourth quarter when Lake Fenton's Dequan Horn split two free throws to give his team the one point lead.

LakeVille's Matt Ashworth took the inbound pass and threw a baseball pass to a streaking Streichert, who made the layup for the win. Lake Fenton missed a full court shot as time expired.

Streichert finished with 21 points and five rebounds.

Brandon 59, Linden 52: Quinn McNally had a game-high 21 points for the Blackhawks as they got the much-needed win over the Eagles on Saturday.

Cody Marks led Linden with 16 points.
