Shooting powers Frankenmuth past NB



NORTH BRANCH — It's not often when the home crowd gives an opponent a standing ovation, however Saturday night was special.

Brad Redford, a senior guard for the Frankenmuth Eagles, clanked his first free-throw of the night ending his record setting streak of 102 straight free-throws made.

A sense of sadness filled the North Branch Broncos' gym, but it didn't take away from the long and deserving ovation, which lasted an entire time out.

"I knew it was off as soon as it left my fingers," Redford said. "I'm happy to get the state record, but it would have been nice to get the national record."

After setting the state record for consecutive freethrows, Redford was only 24 shots away from setting the national record set by Daryl Moreau, for New Orleans De La Salle, LA, in 1979.

Ironically, Redford's last missed free-throw was against North Branch on December 15, 2007.

"I guess it was kind of in the back of my head," Redford said about his last missed free-throw. "But this was a tough stretch. We've played three games in five days. That will wear on you."
