West knocks out Eagles



LAPEER — Chris Hutton sparked an early Lapeer West rally on Monday night, leading the Panthers to a 63-37 Flint Metro League win over Linden at home on Monday night.

Hutton, who finished with 17 points, helped West build a 25-15 halftime lead over the Eagles.

A 28-point scoring outburst from West blew the game wide open for the Panthers.

Todd Delange added 15 points for West and Zach Koerner had 11.

Jordan Williams led Linden with 12.

Goodrich 49, Oxford 27: The Martians tightened the clamps on the defense in the second half to get the non-conference win at Oxford on Monday night.

Goodrich limited the Wildcats to just seven points after the break, while the Martian offense tacked on 29 points to get the win.

Caleb Jones and Ben Eikey each had 10 points to lead Goodrich.

Chris Keenist led Oxford with eight points.Saturday's results:

Lapeer East 59, Linden 43: The Eagles outscored Linden 30-19 after halftime to get the Flint Metro League win on Saturday. With the win, East moves its Metro record to 11-1 (12-3 overall), moving one step closer to wrapping the league title in the process.

Dan Elliott led East with 13 points along with grabbing nine rebounds. Zak Smillie added 12 points for the Eagles. Swartz Creek 46, Lapeer West 45: The DragonsÕ Russell Hope scored 17 points as his team held off a late West rally to remain in second place in the Flint Metro League standings. Swartz Creek (10-4, 10-3) led by seven points with just two minutes to play, WestÕs Chris Hutton nailed a three-pointer and Todd Delange followed that with a jumper to cut the lead to two points with 30 seconds left. Hutton led West with 19 points. Imlay City 59, Yale 55: The Spartans continued to play spoiler on Saturday, as they defeated a first-place team for the second time in the same week with the Blue Water Area Conference win over the Bulldogs. Imlay City (5-9, 3-7) knocked Yale (7-8, 6-4) out the top spot, and it was all due to the Spartans depth. ÒIt was a well-played game by both teams,Ó Imlay City coach Rick Finkbeiner said. ÒBut our depth really made the difference. We were able to use our bench, and it paid off with a well-balanced attack.Ó Chris Coleman led Imlay City with 14 points while also grabbing six rebounds. Ben Deppong had 13. For Yale, Paul Pierce scored 14 points and Adam Schoof 12. Goodrich 59, Montrose 31: Andrew Patrick had 15 points and Ben Eikey 13 rebounds to lead Goodrich (13-1, 11-1 Genesee Area Conference).
