Moore, the Lapeer East varsity football coach for the past three years, has resigned from the position to take the reins of the varsity football job at Walled Lake Northern, a school that has only been open for the last five years. The way Moore sees it, though, this is just another challenge. "This is a great opportunity for me and my family," Moore said.Ê "Walled Lake has only had a program for the last five years, and they have struggled. "I hope to be the one who can turn that around." Walled Lake, a school of roughly 1,700 students, has a football record of just 10-35 since they opened their doors in the fall of 2003. Moore's track record would lead one to believe that those in charge at Walled Lake have made the right choice in picking the man to help make their program respectable. Moore has been a head varsity football coach for eight years, with stops in Memphis and Clio before coming to Lapeer East in 2005, and everywhere he has been, his teams have shown improvement. When he was at Memphis, his teams were a combined 3-15 in his first three years on the job before he led the Yellowjackets to back-to-back 7-3 records during his final two seasons. Both seasons, Memphis was eliminated from the playoffs in the first round. East hired Moore away from Clio after Moore spent just one disappointing season on the Mustang sidelines. In his first season with the Eagles, Moore led his team to a 2-7 record before improving to 4-5 the previous two campaigns.Ê Moore's career record as a head coach is 28-44. "I thought we really put together a good coaching staff at East," Moore said.Ê"We had a top-notch staff and we had some really great kids who bought into the system we put in.Ê "I had a blast the whole time I was there." Last fall, Moore led East to a 4-3 record through its first seven games, including a 42-24 upset win over previously undefeated Oxford, a moment which Moore says was among his favorite during his tenure at East. "That was something that I was really proud of," Moore said.Ê "That was the week after we lost to Lapeer West, and the kids came back after that tough loss to their big rival and really played their butts off. "I will always remember that game." Down the stretch of the 2007 season, East fell to victim to some unlucky bounces, as the Eagles lost its final two games by a combined three points. Moore, who teaches special education at Lapeer East, will assume a similar position at Walled Lake Northern beginning this fall, and the Central Michigan University graduate cannot wait to get started in his new duties as the head coach at the school. "I am a man who believes that things happen for a reason," Moore said.Ê"This is a good opportunity for me to coach and teach at a brand new school. Walled Lake has great facilities and a new field along with a lot of student-athletes in the school to choose from. "It's time for me and my family to make this move and I am really excited about this chance I have been given."
