Metamora Fire Department Lt. John Speck injured both his knees when he fell partially through the burnt floor.

The smoldering fire was discovered about 6 p.m. when the owner returned to her Brechtwood subdivision home.

"She lifted up her garage door, and was greeted by smoke," said Metamora Fire Department Lt. Sarora Yorks. "It was heavy smoke, and the whole thing could have been smoldering for quite awhile. The siding kind of held the fire inside. There was a huge hole in the wall."

Flames ate through the floor and went into the floor joyce.

"The air hit and there were flames," Yorks said. "They extinguished the fire immediately and went to check on it."

Speck's leg, and a table and chair broke through the floor. Speck became stuck, said Yorks.

"Both knees were injured and his ankles became swollen," said Yorks on Tuesday. "Nothing is broken though. He's on crutches and is in a lot of pain. He's going to the doctor again today."

The Metamora Fire Department was assisted by Lapeer Fire & Rescue firefighters. About 35 fire personnel were on the scene which cleared about 9:30 p.m.

A loss estimate was unavailable at press time; there was extensive smoke damage, said Yorks.

It's thought the incident was an electrical fire. Michigan State Police Sgt. Jim Bush was expected to inspect the home Tuesday afternoon to determine the cause.
