Local News PUBLISHED:
Problems began about 12:19 a.m. when the East Annrook Party Store clerk, whose name isn't being released, approached her van after locking up the East Nepessing Street business for the night. She opened the door and attempted to put a box and her purse inside. She was startled by two men who were hiding inside her vehicle. "One was crouched down by the passenger seat, and the other one by the driver's seat," said Lapeer City Police Lt. Dave Frisch. "She'd never seen them before." The clerk attempted to run away, but was chased down by the culprits. "They started beating her while asking for money," Frisch said. "There was no weapon seen. It was strong arm robbery. The two males overpowered her." The culprits stopped only after an employee of another business walked outside. They knew they were spotted and fled on foot in an unknown direction empty handed. "She was helped and taken inside by the employee until police arrived," Frisch said. The clerk didn't sustain serious injuries and it's unknown if she sought medical care. One suspect may have been wearing an orange shirt with a green camouflage coat. The other may have been wearing red colored clothing. The attempted robbery remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Lapeer City Police Sgt. Chuck Bonesteel or officer Graig Gormley at (810) 664-0835. Susan Younger may be reached at (810) 664-0811, Ext. 8122 or susan.younger@lapeergroup.com |
